Significant Ice Event

December 05, 2013

A significant ice event is expected to begin tonight through Friday along and north of the I-30 corridor.

A line from Denton, Texas to Fort Smith, AR will begin to experience freezing temps in the northern Ark-La-Tex by noon today.  Rain will begin to fall later today and through early Friday afternoon in Caddo-Bossier.

Soil temps in Caddo-Bossier are in the lower 60’s currently, so no icing is expected on ground surfaces to include roadways.

Air temperatures should stay barely above freezing through Saturday so no roadway icing is expected today through Saturday.

Additional precipitation will move in as far south as the I-20 corridor late Saturday afternoon into Sunday morning.  Caddo-Bossier may experience some icing on elevated surfaces beginning late Saturday night and into Sunday morning.

Accumulation of up to ¼ inch of ice on elevated surfaces beginning late Saturday and thru Sunday morning is possible.  Rain ending Sunday.

By Monday morning, temperatures should be above freezing with no anticipated ice accumulation.  Below normal temps next week.

CBOHSEP will continue to monitor and update as needed during this event.
